A few days ago, I commented on another blogger’s site that laughing, smiling and hugs were all good for the soul. That being able to laugh helps to keep things in proper perspective and that every now and then there are days where the only options seem to be laugh or cry. I would rather laugh anytime. Wouldn’t you?
WELL, that’s all good and fine, at least by me, however, I forgot something very important, MUSIC!
I really cannot image how ever I forgot music in my spiel, since it is and always has been my constant companion, never letting me down. The only thing to add to the music would be dancing……well, maybe not the ONLLLYY thing.
Anyway, if you know me even a little, then chances are you know that I’ve not met much music I don’t like. So while I spent most of that day working on my web pages, I had music in my ears all day. I started with broadcast radio, then online radio, then remembered that I wanted to download some music, which led me to listening to my newly acquired music and some old stuff I happened to have with me.
So, this is what was playing all that day. Hope you find something new that you like!
As I write this –
♦ Since I’ve Been Loving You – Led Zeppelin from the “How The West Was Won” CD is in my ears.
It’s hard to get better than Zeppelin! I mean, come on, who is better!? I don’t usually like to hear bands even try to cover them.
However, I do like this Dubstep Remix of Kashmir I ran across on the web.
♦ Kashmir – Led Zeppelin (BlaCk DoG Dubstep Remix)
Also, on that day – I wanted to download some
♦ Maroon 5, I found Moves Like Jagger!
♦ Kings of Leon, I found Use Somebody.
♦ Too Close – Alex Clare
♦ She’s So Mean – Matchbox Twenty (I can’t stop singing this song.)
However, since I was shopping for free downloads (legally), I couldn’t make all that happen but I did get:
and beyond the radio broadcasts, I also listened to:
That’s right – I said Chaka Khan!
♦ Call Me Maybe – Carly_Rae_Jepsen
♦ Wide Awake – Katy Perry
♦ Tik Tok – Ke$ha
♦ Babe I’m Gonna Leave You – Led Zeppelin
♦ Ramble On – Led Zeppelin
♦ With A Little Help From My Friends – Ike and Tina Turner!
♦ Distant Lover – Marvin Gaye
♦ My Love – Justin Timberlake and TI (Listening to this makes me want to roller skate backwards)
♦ Boyfriend –Justin Bieber
♦ Where Have You Been – Rihanna (the stalker song – she means to find that man and she seems to have plans for him!)
♦ Cooler Than Me – Mike Posner
♦ Pumped Up Kicks – Foster the People
♦ Escape (The Pina Colada Song) – Rupert Holmes (love this song – still!)
♦ The Lady In My Life – Michael Jackson (Still hard to believe he’s gone)
♦ Still a Man – Tony, Toni, Tone (remember them?)
♦ Let Me Know – Tony, Toni, Tone
♦ Pearls – Sade (Saw her once on the street in Munich, Germany – her songs seem to never get old!)
♦ Please Send Me Somebody to Love – Sade
♦ Pretty Penny – STP (1994 Video Music Awards)
♦ If Only For One Night/Creepin’ – Luther Vandross (don’t we miss him and that big, beautiful voice of his!)
♦ Come Back to Me – Janet Jackson (I used to play this song during my cool downs when I was a fitness instructor – it was old then too but the class seemed to like it – still a good song, I think.)
♦ I Get So Lonely – Janet Jackson
♦ Somebody That I Used To Know – Gotye
♦ Evolution (Versao Portuense) – Cinematic Orchestra
♦ Scatsville – Michael Franks

♦ Rainy Night in Tokyo – Michael Franks (For my photography blogger pals – Great Slide show)

♦ Superwoman – Stevie Wonder
♦ Forever, For Always, For Love – Lelah Hathaway (Daughter of Donny Hathaway – again with the backwards skating, I might just have to go skating.)
While I was putting this together, Minnie Riperton crossed my mind.
Now, if you don’t know who she is, well, she was known for her five and a half octave vocal range and left us way too soon (young, and at the peak of her career, I think it was).
Anyway, I looked her up today and found something I didn’t know about her. That is, her now grown daughter is actor, Maya Rudolph, of Saturday Night Live fame. Who Knew! Well, certainly not I.
Hope you enjoy the next couple of tunes from Minnie.
♦ Inside My Love- Minnie Riperton (The late, Great, Minnie Riperton)
♦ Back Down Memory Lane – Minnie Riperton (hear that 5 1/2 octaves on this song)
Nothing too Jazzy that day – 94.1 The Mix and my own playlists but next day I got my Jazz fix with KUNV 91.5 and Michael Franks from my own playlists.
So you see, I can just go on like this across genres and generations – I love it all – well most of it anyway.
Your generation, my generation, their generation — I’d like to listen to it all although not necessarily at the same time.
LAST but not least, an up and coming new band –
♦ OHME or Operation Human Mind Expansion
The duo is an Electronica – Drum & and Bass band and these are cuts from their first EP – titled Vertical Horizon. (Listen here ~ “Pure” has become my favorite cut!)
If you like them – tell your friends and reach out and let OHME know too.
Operation Human Mind Expansion (OHME)
♦ Vertical Horizon (Live)
Eight and Holding – Hey INDIA!
Thanks for Reading, Watching, Listening
